Emma Lohan, songwriter/performer, is reputed for entertaining her audiences with her wicked sense of humour and evocative melodies.. She is excited share her loops and stations to the world with this one woman show reminiscent of LAURIE ANDERSON and ROZI PLAIN.
Returning to Ireland following a 9 year stint in the UK and the BALEARICS. Emma of NEW POPE, RIVERS & CROWS, moved to LONDON in 2015 to record her debut solo album BLACK ATLANTIC. The album was a critical success but following a busy year producing and touring the UK and Ireland in 2017– The Cobblestones, Levi’s, The Black Gate, The Magic Garden and many more; Emma moved to the Balearics to turn her thoughts to creating and writing her next album THE FISH AND BIRD SYMPHONY.
She immersed herself in the Balearics scene playing with producer Sam Williams ( Super Grass, The Go Team); Damien Rice; Leo Napier; Oso Leone and minimal techno labels SANTACATA Records and Planetary Instinct. It was here she developed a blend of her Irish folk routes and Balearic house beats to create her new sound she likes to call TECHNO FOLK.
Emma’s albums are more like sound diaries of her travels. She hitched across West Africa, living on her music teachers compound in The Gambia whilst writing BLACK ATLANTIC and found herself hiking across the Sierra de Tramontana listening and translating the sounds of the birds, the crickets and the sea to create THE FISH AND BIRD SYMPHONY.

There's just one thing I'd like to say to you. What in the world, are we going to do? See wasn't May 22nd so great, but now I'd like to review, my rights too And I appeal to you Can I appeal to you It makes me wonder, what year we're living in, When saving a woman's life is seen as a mortal sin. Maybe it's hard for you to understand But my words are like birds, they fly away with you listening. And I appeal to you Can I appeal to you And dare I say her name, for you to remember. How do I say her name? To help you recall. How should I say her name? Savita, we lit candles for you. Savita, we filled the streets for you. Savita, we'll remember. And we appeal to you Can we appeal to you.

about

Emma Lohan grew up in a small village in Co. Galway off the West Coast of Ireland. She now lives between London and Palma de Mallorca and is set to release her debut album Black Atlantic. Produced in Manawax Studios in East London and mastered by the pioneering UK dub producer/selector Nick Manasseh, Black Atlantic is a gently crafted exploration of sounds Emma collected on her travels along the Atlantic Coasts of Ireland, West Africa and South America.
Lohan's light, distinct vocal style floats beautifully over the rich backing of her 6 piece band combining folk and ethno-pop elements in a fusion of world sounds. The 8 song album closes with the title track Black Atlantic (a live recording she made with the band in a studio across the road from the school she spent her youth in Galway). Lohan paints images of childhood isolation and loneliness with her lyrics, but the song feels anything but sad – it has a transient quality that makes these painful moments feel less melancholy. Her upbeat rhythms and casual delivery make this a triumphant closing song.
